Terms of Use

This document aims to explain the general rules, terms of use, as well as privacy policy in place for this Matrix server (also refered as the "service"). Please make sure to read everything carefully as the administration will deal with any infractions.

Touhou-Project.com, its affiliated domains, and its administration (hereinafter refered to as "THP", "us", or "we"), reserves the right to update these rules and guidelines at any moment and for any reason. A good faith effort to communicate changes to users shall be made but the enforcement of any new provisions is not contingent on input from users and will be enforced at the discretion of the administration. Minor changes to this document such as for the purpose of clarication of provisions or for typographical purposes will not necessitate announcements to users.

Purpose of this service

This is the official Matrix server for THP's community. THP is an imageboard and forum dedicated to all things related to Team Shanghai Alice's Touhou Project. THP is known for, among other things, its fanfiction and interactive stories in the style of Choose Your Own Adventure Stories. The primary intent of this service is to provide a space for readers and writers to communicate, share ideas, discuss stories on the site and different aspects of Touhou in real time.

The availability of this Matrix homeserver is made upon the assumption that users will use it to communicate with like-minded individuals about shared interests. Using this service is not a right but rather a privilege and should be made with the assumption that topics and user-posted content should be relevant to the stated topics of the community and specific rooms. Explicit exceptions may be made by the administration and, in those cases, it shall be clearly stated to involved parties. Violations of THP's terms of use may result in sanctions including bans and exclusions from the service.

Rules and Guidelines

The rules below are not meant to be an exhaustive list that are narrowly defined and enforced. The administration and moderation staff will use their own discretion when enforcing rules and may make decisions based on the intent and spirit of the guidelines.

• Any and all content posted must conform to the laws of the United States of America.
• THP is a community for those aged 18 and older. Strong and adult language is allowed. That said, explicit or suggestive images should only be posted in rooms designated for that purpose.
• Any type of spam, malicious links or unsolicited advertisement is forbidden.
• Do not upload copyright-infringing ("pirated") material, share links or otherwise facilitate the distribution of said content.
• Any sort of slur or epithet is not permitted. This includes anything that's racist, sexist, prejudiced, or a generalization of a group. There are community members from all over the world and from all walks of life. Be nice!
• "Site Culture" or norms that may be commonplace elsewhere on the internet aren't really relevant to THP. Users are expected to treat everyone with dignity, tolerate dissent and differences of opinion, and respect diverse backgrounds.
• There are a variety of rooms with a range of topics but keep in mind that, at the end of the day, this is a community built around a shared love of Touhou. Please think first whether or not something might be relevant to our community before posting, keeping in mind that real-world issues and controversies aren't very relevant to our user base. At the end of the day we're here to discuss all things Touhou!
• Do not post outrage-seeking material or behave in a way that foments outrage or negative reactions from others.
• Celebrating, minimizing, or encouraging human misery or death is never acceptable no matter how strongly you may feel about a topic.
• Calls to violence or posting content that depicts (self) harm or violence is likewise not allowed.
• The sharing of personal information of other users or people without their consent is not allowed ("doxxing").
• These rules apply even if you think you're just being "ironic" or think you're joking.
• Please only use English when communicating with others to facilitate moderation.
• Do not harass other community members. Respect their wishes if they do not wish to engage you. This includes pinging or unwanted private messages.
• Respect each room's topic. Straying from the set topic is normal from time to time but if someone asks you to move to the proper room, do so.
• If told by a moderator to drop a topic or to stop posting certain things, do not argue publicly about it. If you continue to have objections, express them via a private message to staff.
• Content uploaded by users is considered to be done so under "fair use" and is retained for a period of time. If a user engages in sustained usage beyond the typical or attempts to circumvent built-in limits, their accounts may be sanctioned.
• Any rooms bridged or connected to other services will be indicated as such in their topics and may have their own additional rules specific to them. Please make sure you understand them before posting.
• If you commit an infraction and are banned, you may be banned from any and all other THP-managed services.

Additionally, a copy of these rules will also be published within a special room on the server.

Privacy Policy

THP promises to never to use, sell or otherwise share user data with third parties unless bound to do so by law, to report illegal activity, or with prior user consent. Data pertinent to the usage of this service may be used internally for statistical or analytical purposes or to look for any violations of the terms laid out in this document. Other than that THP is commited fully to the privacy of its users. The exceptions made for third party access are listed below:

• Usage of Google's reCAPTCHA requires data to be processed by Google and its parent company, Alphabet.
• The Jitsi conference system in place in the voice channel is currently hosted on a third party server. While it is a secure protocol, THP cannot guarantee what data may be collected by the host.
• "Integrations" or "Widgets" used in rooms may also be running third party code on third party servers. In these cases, the privacy policies set out by these services supersede the ones detailed in this document and THP is not responsible for how user data may be used.

THP otherwise proudly uses Free, Libre, and Open Source Software that is self-hosted and we believe that a private and secure internet is important for everyone.

Any major updates to the above policy that might require additional third-parties to process user data will be announced.

The rules and terms above are meant to reduce ambiguitiy and give users a good idea of what to expect. The idea is for everyone to have a good time no matter their background and opinions about the world at large. Make sure to take it easy and have fun!
